Help - Using Full Text Search
The "Text Search" box lets you enter words or phrases that should appear somewhere in the text of the filing you're trying to find. You should be aware that your text search will be performed by EDGAR Online LLC's computer system, which uses search logic that differs from that used by the LexisNexis research services. Therefore, please review the following items carefully before submitting your search:
- Case Sensitivity -- You can enter your terms in all lower case -- the search logic is not case sensitive.
- Phrases -- You do not have to enclose phrases in quotation marks. The system will look for the text as typed (for example, dividends per common share) except for a few exceptions (described below). If you want to enter multiple terms, use one of the search term connectors (also described below) to separate them.
- Wildcards -- You can use the asterisk (*) wildcard character at the end of a term to cause the system to look for variations in its ending. For example, trans* will return transport, transaction, transform and transition.
Note: Your search term must contain at lease 4 character to successfully use this wildcard.
- Invalid Characters -- Some characters (such as a dash or the percent symbol) are not indexed by the system and may generate a "TEXT [search text here] IS NOT A VALID ENTRY" error message. If you receive an error message and still wish to use that character in your search term, enclose the term in quotation marks. For example, "24%".
- Search Term Connectors -- When entering multiple search terms, use one of the following connectors to indicate the relationship between those terms.
- AND -- Narrows your search by requiring both terms to appear in the document before it will be retrieved. For example, depreciation and amortization.
- OR -- Expands you search to retrieve documents that contain either (or both) of your search terms. For example, GMC or General Motors.
- NOT -- Narrows your search to the most relevant documents by excluding those documents that contain the word or phrase you specify. For example, Depreciation not amortization will return documents that contain only the word depreciation and do not contain the word amortization.
- /n -- This connector instructs the system to look for terms that are in close proximity to each other. The value you enter determines how closely the terms should be to each other. This connector can be useful to indicate a close relationship between terms. For example, to link a person with a task or title (i.e. Smithers /15 Agent) or when you're not sure how a person's name might appear within the document (i.e. John /3 Henderson).
